The Greenwich Skating Club, Inc. demolished and reconstructed an existing facility on their 2.3 acre property in Greenwich, CT. For several decades, the Club has operated as a privately owned facility that offers organized competition, practice and instruction in hockey and figure skating as well as general skating time. The construction of an approximately 9,000± square foot, two story clubhouse building includes a viewing room, locker rooms, gathering space, a kitchen and cafeteria, lavatories and miscellaneous rooms for coaches, skate sharpening, etc. It also includes construction of a separate building to house a zamboni and other mechanical equipment and related site work such as grading, drainage improvements, utility services and reconfiguration of an existing service drive. The existing, full size outdoor hockey rink remains. Upon completion of construction the finished complex is enhanced by the introduction of drainage improvements, Low Impact Development (LID) measures and new, state of the art mechanical/refrigeration equipment. The site is located near East Brothers Brook and is within a Special Flood Hazard Area which made it necessary to design the project to comply with FEMA and local Flood Hazard Overlay Zone requirements as well as providing compensatory storage of flood waters.
