Greenwich Academy – 200 North Maple Avenue

Between 2018 and 2021, Greenwich Academy undertook a comprehensive transformation of the northern half of its campus at 200 North Maple Avenue. A new Lower School building. A renovated and expanded Middle School. A Visual Arts Center. A reimagined Harrison Courtyard. A reconstructed North Parking Lot. All of it completed while school remained fully operational.

Redniss & Mead served as civil engineer throughout, working alongside Anne Beha Architects, landscape architect William Kenny Associates, mechanical engineer Altieri, general contractor AP Construction, and owner’s representative Stone Harbor Project Advisors. Land use coordination was led by Michelle Cronin.

The Harrison Courtyard presented one of the more technically demanding moments in the project. The space sits at a low point on campus, and beneath the surface lay multiple utility connections to the surrounding buildings. Delivering the new design, which included curved amphitheater seating and a 23-foot elevation change, required a comprehensive drainage strategy, precise grading, and a full sewer redesign within an active campus setting.

The North Parking Lot required its own solution. As the primary pickup and drop-off area for the school, daily dismissal demands substantial vehicle queuing. The redesigned layout expanded queue capacity and introduced porous asphalt across approximately half of the pavement area to promote stormwater infiltration and reduce reliance on municipal infrastructure.

For more than 30 years Redniss & Mead has partnered with Greenwich Academy. That depth of knowledge now informs planning for a new 50-acre satellite campus, working alongside Sasaki as master planner.
