The Greenwich Skating Club, Inc. demolished and reconstructed an existing facility on their 2.3 acre property in Greenwich, CT. For several decades, the Club has operated as a privately owned facility that offers organized competition, practice and instruction in hockey and figure skating as well as general skating time. The project entailed the construction of an approximately 9,000± square foot, two story clubhouse building that has a viewing room, locker rooms, gathering space, a kitchen and cafeteria, lavatories and miscellaneous rooms for coaches, skate sharpening, etc. Construction also included a separate building to house a zamboni and other mechanical equipment. We performed related site work such as grading, drainage improvements, utility services and reconfiguration of an existing service drive. The existing, full size outdoor hockey rink remained. We also introduced drainage improvements, Low Impact Development (LID) measures and new, state of the art mechanical/refrigeration equipment. The site is located near East Brothers Brook and is within a Special Flood Hazard Area making it necessary to design the project to comply with FEMA and local Flood Hazard Overlay Zone requirements as well as providing compensatory storage of flood waters.
